
Dr. Walter S. Scott III, a native of Durham, North Carolina, is the oldest of five children raised by Walter S. Scott, Jr.
and Montrose R. Scott. He graduated from Hillside High School in Durham County in 1977. He then matriculated to Morehouse College
in Atlanta, Georgia, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1981. It was while at Morehouse that he expressed the desire to
become a dentist, following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Dr. Walter S. Scott, Sr. In 1982, Dr. Scott was accepted into the
dental school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Upon graduation in 1986 he spent a year at Meharry Medical College,
earning a certificate in Hospital Dentistry in 1987.Dr. Scott came to Fayetteville in 1988 where he worked as an associate for Dr. Ronald Tucker until 1992, when he accepted a position with the North Carolina Department of Corrections in Hoke County. He returned to private practice in Fayetteville in 1994 when he purchased the practice of the late Dr. Fred Harris that was located at 509 Owen Drive. In 2003 the practice expanded adding a second location, the Breezewood Avenue office. Dr. Scott believes in preventive dentistry, encouraging people to take care of their teeth. He says that people can keep their teeth for a lifetime. Dr. Scott is a member of the American Dental Association, the National Dental Association, the Old North State Dental Society, and the North Carolina Dental Society.
Dr. Scott resides in Fayetteville with his wife Carolyn and their two children, Hamilton and MacKenzie. The Scott family are members of Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Scott enjoys playing racquetball and going to football games.
